Description

Tony Dixon’s brass range of whistles feature thick-walled brass bodies, polymer headjoints and brass tuning slides.

The thick-walled brass body adds a touch of brightness and solidness to the tone when compared to Tony’s all polymer models.  Please be advised that as the brass body is thick-walled, it is not a light whistle (see specs below).  If you are looking for a lighter whistle, you might try Tony’s “Trad” model in brass that has a thin-walled body and is much lighter.

The type of polymer used for the headjoint is a plastic material that enjoys similar tonal characteristics to wood but doesn’t require the constant care and maintenance.

The general tone of Tony’s whistles could  be described as pure, mellow, sweet and slightly “chiffy”, their volume as on the quiet side but not too quiet.  Being as such they are equally at home when played around the house, at a small session or when mic’d for stage or studio.

About Tony Dixon

Tony DixonTony Dixon from Devon, England has made quite a name for himself over the last few years with his wide range of whistles, flutes and “Duos” (one body with interchangeable whistle and flute head joints).  Being an accomplished musician, Tony doesn’t let an instrument out of his workshop that he wouldn’t be happy playing himself.  That attitude combined with efficient manufacturing processes allows Tony to offer instruments that sound “like a million bucks” yet cost much, much less!

Testimonials

My coworker is a musician who has developed an interested in Irish music. I told him I played the tin whistle, (I also play mandolin and recorder), he asked me to get him a 'nice' tin whistle. I recently purchased two Feadog Tin Whistles in D, a black one for him and a green one for me, from your website. These whistles are just what I expected, fine Irish instruments. We are both very pleased with these whistles. I own two other whistles, a Walton and a Tipperary. This will be a nice addition to the collection. I am interested in learning to play the Low Whistle in D. I am considering the Tony Dixon Irish Whistle & Flute Duo. I told my wife "you can never have too many whistles". Thank you for providing great instruments at great prices. There's now one more whistle player in the world. It has been a pleasure doing business with you. This Irishman looks forward to purchasing more whistles for you in the future. Sláinte
