Tony Dixon Brass Irish Whistles
Product Description
Tony Dixon’s brass range of whistles feature thick-walled brass bodies, polymer headjoints and brass tuning slides.
The thick-walled brass body adds a touch of brightness and solidness to the tone when compared to Tony’s all polymer models. Please be advised that as the brass body is thick-walled, it is not a light whistle (see specs below). If you are looking for a lighter whistle, you might try Tony’s “Trad” model in brass that has a thin-walled body and is much lighter.
The type of polymer used for the headjoint is a plastic material that enjoys similar tonal characteristics to wood but doesn’t require the constant care and maintenance.
The general tone of Tony’s whistles could be described as pure, mellow, sweet and slightly “chiffy”, their volume as on the quiet side but not too quiet. Being as such they are equally at home when played around the house, at a small session or when mic’d for stage or studio.
About Tony Dixon
Tony Dixon from Devon, England has made quite a name for himself over the last few years with his wide range of whistles, flutes and “Duos” (one body with interchangeable whistle and flute head joints). Being an accomplished musician, Tony doesn’t let an instrument out of his workshop that he wouldn’t be happy playing himself. That attitude combined with efficient manufacturing processes allows Tony to offer instruments that sound “like a million bucks” yet cost much, much less!
