Description

The Tony Dixon Aluminum “Duo” features a shared aluminum body between polymer whistle and flute headjoints (“piccolo” headjoints for the higher keys).  Not only does this allow the whistle player an opportunity to practice up on her flute technique and vice versa, it also affords a wide range of tonal possibilities.

The type of polymer used for the headjoints is a plastic material that enjoys similar tonal characteristics to wood but doesn’t require the constant care and maintenance.

The thick-walled Aluminum body adds a level of brightness and solidness when compared to Tony’s all polymer models.

The general tone of Tony’s whistles could be described as pure, mellow, sweet and slightly “chiffy”, their volume as on the quiet side but not too quiet.  Being as such they are equally at home when played around the house, at a small session or when mic’d for stage or studio.

If you play the flute, you know that the tone is largely up to the player.  That being said, the general tone of Tony’s flutes might be considered woodsy and warm with the higher keys sounding brighter.
