Bodhráns, Bones & Spoons
Just Starting Out on the Bodhrán?
If you are just starting out on the bodhrán, it can be dizzying when trying to figure out where to start with all the options out there! If you are serious about learning and developing in to a good bodhránii (bodhrán player) we always recommend that you start with a good tunable bodhrán like the Hedwitschak Light-Line. While you’ll spend a bit more on the front-end, you’ll be happier in the long run.
If you are simply wondering what all the fuss is about with the bodhrán or getting a loved one a unique gift and either the budget doesn’t permit or are unsure how committed they’ll be to it, a less expensive non-tunable bodhrán like the Waltons 18” might fit the bill.
In either case, we have eliminated the guesswork by putting together a few hand-selected bodhrán starter kits to help get you going.
What do you mean by "tunable"? When a bodhrán is tunable, this simply means that there are tuning mechanism installed that allow for the tightening or loosening of the drum skin. As most bodhrán skins are made of animal skin (generally goatskin), the skin naturally loosens and tightens on its own due to environmental conditions.
